10 Amazing Pictures from Switzerland

10 Amazing Pictures from Switzerland

I struggled to decide what posts to write about Switzerland. This trip was much different than most as it was for my honeymoon, and my focus was on having a blast with my husband instead of doing the, “thing that everyone says you have to do in Switzerland.” To be honest, planning a trip to Switzerland was extremely overwhelming. I read hundreds of posts that told me the many things I couldn’t miss in Switzerland and I had a list of over a hundred of things to do. How can you do a hundred things on a week long trip? The answer is, you can’t. So, I didn’t want to add to that list of overwhelm by writing my typical “can’t miss posts.” Instead of writing a post on what you have to do, I wanted to write a post including some options you can choose from. Just remember, countries like Switzerland have so much to offer you’ll never squeeze everything in, so just choose a few and know you can go back someday to do the rest! Maybe I’ll decide to write more in the future but for now I am just doing this fun picture post.

1. Walking around Zurich, Switzerland

I had to start this post with my favorite selfie from the trip! We started our honeymoon in Zurich and absolutely loved exploring this city!

2. Exploring the Gorgeous Capital of Bern, Switzerland

I was really surprised that Bern was the capital of Switzerland as I assumed it was Zurich due to it’s size and how often I hear about it. We knew we were making our way to Interlaken for a few nights so we decided to stop in Bern on the way. We were so glad we stopped as it’s so beautiful and it was a great place for lunch and a drink before making our way to Interlaken.

3. Visiting Oeschinen Lake

It’s impossible to choose favorites after a trip to Switzerland because everything is so beautiful. But, if I had to choose a top three, visiting Oeschinen Lake is definitely in that group. You can either hike up to the lake (it takes about 1.5 hours) or take the cable car up (it takes ten minutes). Once you get to the lake you have many options for hiking. The panoramic hike is the most popular and beautiful. If you decide to do the panoramic hike I definitely recommend taking the cable car up as it will save you 3 hours roundtrip. Here’s one of my favorite photos from our trip. Hubby swimming in Oeschinen Lake :D.

4. Visiting the Village of Lauterbrunnen

Ok, I read that Lauterbrunnen was known for their waterfalls but had no idea we’d see one right when we pulled into this sweet village! It was raining in Interlaken when we left for Lauterbrunnen and were so happy to see the sun start to pop out as we walked through town with our jaws on the pavement. The possibilities are endless in Lauterbrunnen. You can take the train up to the car-free village of Murren, go on many beautiful hikes, explore nearby villages, and so much more!

5. Lunch at Stallbeizli- Heuboden in Grindelwald

We almost missed out on this awesome place, but my husband said let’s go it sounds cool! If you want lunch with a view I couldn’t recommend Stallbeizli- Heuboden more. Not only is the view spectacular but the food and service are as well. We loved the sausage and heard incredible things about their fondue.

6. Paragliding in Emmetten

This was my favorite day of my life so far! I expected this experience to be thrilling and extreme, although it felt that way leading up until I jumped off a mountain, the 30 minute flight was so peaceful! If you decide to paraglide in Switzerland I couldn’t recommend Paragliding Luzern more. I will definitely be doing a post on this experience in the near future.

7. Stay at Gasthaus Badhof – Golfhotel

We are definitely not golfers, but when I saw this hotel I knew we had to stay here. The view from the deluxe room was one of my favorite views I’ve ever had at a hotel and they treated us like a king and queen here! If you love golf or just want to stay at a beautiful place, I highly recommend booking Gasthaus Badhof – Golfhotel. Bonus! Hitting the driving range is included in your stay and we had a blast doing that.

8. Exploring the city of Luzern

You’ll see Luzern spelled Lucerne on your Google maps and in American blog posts, but it’s Luzern in Swiss. (This is so damn confusing to me! Can’t it just be consistent?) But I understand since we can’t properly pronounce shit lol. Luzern was our favorite city we visited in Switzerland!

9. Hiking Mount Rigi

There are a couple of ways you can do this hike. You can hike from Kussnacht up to Seebodenalp and then hike up to Mount Rigi. Or you can take the cable car up to Seebodenalp and then hike up to Mount Rigi. It all depends if you want it to be a half-day hike or a full-day hike. Either way the views are incredible! We started our hike in the rain and then it opened up beautifully for us as we were reaching the top.

10. Eating Our Way Through Switzerland

I may end up doing a blog post dedicated to all the incredible food we had in Switzerland, because it was that good. We had awesome food from all over the world and it was so fun to have so many choices everywhere we went. One of my personal favorites was this gelato from Vanini in Zurich. They’ve been making delicious Swiss chocolate since 1871. So. Damn. Good.

I always knew I would love Switzerland, but I truly wasn’t prepared for how incredible it is. Thank so much for reading along! I hope these pictures get you excited for your trip to Switzerland. If you’re looking for more travel tips you can read my other blog posts here. Thanks again for reading along and safe travels!
