We moved to Slabtown almost three years ago now, and I sometimes forget just how lucky we are to be surrounded by such TREASURES. We’re so lucky to live in a town with so many creative and delicious local businesses, and Slabtown is no exception. In just a five-minute walk, you’ll find a collection of some of the best spots in Traverse City, with a few right across the street from each other. Whether you’re in the mood for a coffee, mozzarella sticks, ice cream, a juicy burger, fresh cookies, or a beer and a taco; here are six Slabtown treasures you absolutely don’t want to miss on your next visit to Traverse City.
Dairy Lodge
If you’re craving that classic, nostalgic ice cream experience, Dairy Lodge is a must-visit. This local favorite has been serving up cones, sundaes, and shakes for years, and it’s the perfect spot to cool down on a warm Traverse City day. Known for its generous portions and friendly service, Dairy Lodge has everything from classic chocolate and vanilla to unique flavors that will keep you coming back for more. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Dairy Lodge is the place to indulge in a little ice cream nostalgia. FYI Dairy Lodge is seasonal, but they do open for Christmas Eve each year, because, well, they are amazing! Make sure you check their Facebook for hours before you head there.
Loco Boys Brewery
Loco Boys Brewery has quickly become a favorite in Slabtown, blending craft beer with bold Mexican flavors. If you’re into amazing craft brews and mouthwatering Mexican food, this place is a total win. Their tacos, burritos, and enchiladas are packed with flavor, and the beer selection—ranging from crisp IPAs to smooth stouts—perfectly complements every bite. The laid-back atmosphere and vibrant energy make it the ideal spot to relax, sip on something new, and indulge in some seriously good food. In the summer they have an patio to enjoy the sunshine and delicious food and drink. Whether you’re a craft beer enthusiast or just in the mood for a good taco, Loco Boys always delivers.
Mundos West
Mundos West is the go-to coffee shop in Slabtown for those who truly appreciate a quality cup of coffee. They carefully and ethically source only the finest specialty coffees from around the world. Through partnerships with incredible coffee farmers and importers, Mundos West brings you world-class harvests, including many unique and rare coffees that you won’t find anywhere else. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that they have the best breakfast burrito in town! Their chili lime hash burrito is TO DIE FOR. They have an awesome seasonal drink menu and my personal favorite is their spring and summer lavender mint matcha latte. They also have the cutest table next to Kid’s creek where you can enjoy your coffee and food!
Slabtown Cookies
If you haven’t tried Slabtown Cookies yet, what are you waiting for? This sweet spot offers an ever-changing selection of freshly baked cookies that are the definition of indulgence. Think gooey chocolate chip cookies, s’mores-inspired creations, and so many other seasonal flavors to try. The best part? You get to serve yourself, so you can pick as many (or as few) as you want. It’s always a treat to stop by and see what’s fresh out of the oven that day. Follow their social media for updates on the latest cookie lineup—you won’t want to miss it.
Slabtown Burgers
A great burger can turn a good day into a great one, and Slabtown Burgers knows exactly how to do that. This place is all about the burger—hand-pattied, juicy, and served just the way you like it. Whether you’re sticking with the classic cheeseburger or trying one of their creative specialty options, you can’t go wrong. They also offer fresh-cut fries, salads, and wraps for those looking for something a little lighter. It’s the perfect spot for a casual meal with friends or family, and the flavors will definitely leave you satisfied. This is a staple in our home and I am realizing I don’t have many pictures as we usually demolish it so quickly! We are so lucky to have some many great burger options in Traverse City, but Slabtown Burgers is definitely one of my favorites!
Sleder’s Family Tavern
Sleder’s is one of those places that feels like it’s been a part of the fabric of Traverse City forever. Established in 1882, it’s Michigan’s oldest continuously operating restaurant. Every visit to Sleder’s feels like stepping into history, with its cozy, nostalgic atmosphere and hearty menu that’s perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re grabbing a classic burger, sipping on a cocktail, or enjoying a bowl of homemade soup, there’s always something comforting about this family-owned tavern. The vibe is casual and welcoming, making it a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. They have the coldest beer in town and it’s so fun to meet friends here for a drink and watch a game!
Slabtown is one of those places where it’s easy to feel like you’re part of something special. Whether you’re enjoying a burger at Slabtown Burgers, grabbing a cookie at Slabtown Cookies, or sipping a craft brew at Loco Boys Brewery, each spot has its own unique charm and flavor.
