Oh Prague, how I miss you already. I have met a few people from Prague along my travels and decided it was time to finally check it out for myself. I couldn’t believe how much I loved this city! It’s beautiful, has an awesome food and drink scene, so much history and really badass and friendly people! My quick trip was incredible for many reasons, but it was all made possible due to my hotel that was in the perfect location so let’s start there. FYI, I spent the majority of my time in Old Town, Prague.
Stay at Gorgeous Prague Rooms
My stay at Gorgeous Prague Rooms was just what I was looking for in Prague. I knew I was going to be out exploring most of the time so I didn’t need anything super fancy. The room was spacious, comfortable and had the best location ever.
I went with a superior double room and it was only $100 a night. If I wanted a room with air conditioning and a balcony it would have been $140 a night. This is a great rate for the location and room you get. Click here to learn more or to book a room with Gorgeous Prague Rooms.
Follow the Green Fairy: Absinthe Tour
I always check Airbnb experiences when I travel and I am so glad. I decided to book an Absinthe Tour with The Green Fairy. This was one of my favorite Airbnb experiences to date and I absolutely couldn’t recommend it more. This is a 2 hour tour and you’ll meet right in Old Town. You’ll visit a few bars, learn SO much about the history of absinthe, and try a few different kinds of absinthe. Nataly is an incredible host and taught us so much about Absinthe and Prague! The first bar, Absintherie, was my favorite part of the tour (even though they were all great).
Absintherie has so much information about the history of Absinthe in Prague and there were so many varieties of Absinthe you could try including some awesome cocktails. We tried traditional Czech Absinthe here.
Our next stop, Bartida, was also excellent and here we tried Absinthe served the traditional French way.
After you learn a bit about what kind of style you like, Nataly will take you to the Green Devil’s Absinthe Bar. There they have an extensive Absinthe list and you get to choose what kind you want to try!
I honestly can’t talk more highly about this tour. I loved exploring Prague with a local and learning more about it and Absinthe while having a nice little buzz! Nataly is an awesome host and made my trip to Prague. I liked her so much we ended up getting dinner together after the tour! You definitely have to do this tour when you’re in Prague.
Dinner at Mlejnice
When we were on our Absinthe tour, Nataly pointed out Mlejnice restaurant and said it’s a must for traditional Czech cuisine. I told her I was going after the tour and asked if she wanted to join and I’m so glad she said yes.
I loved the decor in this restaurant and it smelled so damn good inside.
Nataly convinced me to get the dark beer even though I told her I’m not a huge fan of beer. I particularly don’t like dark beer. Well, like so much that day, she was right! I absolutely loved this local beer and am so glad I tried it.
Speaking of dark beer, the pork knuckle is marinated in dark beer and is commonly served with fresh bread, horseradish and mustard. It is one of the famous dishes of the Czech cuisine and I am officially in love with it. This meat was so tender and had so much flavor! It was great on it’s own but also nice to add some of the horseradish and mustard to it.
I was a little sauced up on the absinthe and dark beer and told the hilarious and kind server, “Holy shit, this is fucking amazing!” He laughed and said well now that you swore first I can say, “I’m so fucking happy you love it.” What an incredible first meal in Prague.
Gelato at Creme de la Creme
For the best gelato in Prague head to Creme de la Creme. They have five locations in Prague so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one. My phone died when I was enjoying my gelato so they were kind enough to let me use a couple of their photos.
I loved their pistachio and chocolate gelato!
After an awesome absinthe tour, pork knuckle for dinner, and some gelato I made it back to my room and slept awesome. I was so excited for the next day as my friend, Lotti, was coming from Germany for a day and were were off to explore more of Prague.
Brunch at Bistro Monk
If you’ve read my posts before, you know how much I love brunch. It’s funny because the food and drinks are great of course but that isn’t even my favorite part. The whole brunch vibe is my favorite because I love seeing everyone come together and get excited about eating a late breakfast, especially at a place as cute as Bistro Monk.
When we first arrived at Bistro Monk we were a bit concerned. The line outside the restaurant was super long and there was no organization as to getting your name on a waitlist or knowing how long the wait was. We quickly learned (like most of the service industry right now) that they were short staffed and we just had to be patient. We were also there at the busiest time of day so just remember to be kind to the staff as they are doing their best during this crazy time. Lotti and I both enjoyed the eggs benedict and although I have some good pictures this photo of a their offerings is just too good not to share.
There are so many great options at Bistro Monk and they even have vegetarian and gluten free options. We also loved their brunch cocktails so definitely give one of them a try!
Walk to Charles Bridge
After brunch we decided to walk to the famous Charles Bridge. Charles Bridge is a perfect place to walk to after Bistro Monk because it’s just a ten minute walk.
This bridge is famous for its Gothic and Baroque architecture and because it was the only means of crossing the Vltava river until 1841. This made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe.
So excited to explore another part of our beautiful earth with one of my favorite people in the world! Czech Republic is our sixth country together. I just love her so much,
It was extremely hot (about 96 degrees) so at first we didn’t want to walk all the way across the bridge, but then we saw a cute cafe along the water across the way so we decided to do it!
Lunch at Kampa Park
Wow, were we glad we decided to walk across the bridge and check out Kampa Park. What we didn’t know is it is quite fancy (and expensive) and you definitely want a reservation. We got lucky that we came here when it was slowing down after the lunch hour so we got a table on the water with a gorgeous view.
As many places in Europe do, they asked for us to order some food if we were going to take such a nice table and we laughed because we had just left brunch! We started with a few delicious cocktails (I LOVED their margaritas) and then I had my favorite watermelon salad I’ve ever had in my life.
Next time we’ll plan a little better and come much more hungry, but I can’t recommend a nice lunch at Kampa Park more!
Dinner and Drinks at Cafe Sladkovsky
Since the drinks had started we decided to keep them going. We wanted to check out a different area in the city so we took an Uber to the district of Vršovice. FYI, Uber’s in Prague are quite cheap and a great way to get around the city when it’s too far to walk. We didn’t even plan to come here but stumbled across it and were so glad we did! This cafe is named after the 19th century revolutionary, journalist, public speaker and – in his later years – vegetarian, Karel Sladkovský. Another FYI, this cafe is cash only.
I’m telling you right now if you are in Prague and you want a yummy drink you have to head here and order their homemade lemonade and add tequila to it. This drink was so delicious and had us laughing our booties off all night!
We were having such a blast here that we decided to keep the spiked lemonades coming and hang out until we were hungry for dinner. We ordered the veggie burger and their halloumi and hummus toast with french fries and it was all delicious.
After eating and drinking all day we walked home during the sunset watching the golden hour peak through the streets and buildings as we made our way back to our room. I’ve always dreamed of meeting up with Lotti to simply hangout and day drink without having to fly over an ocean and holy shit it was even more dreamy than I ever could have imagined.
I of course had to stop and try a Trdelník (aka chimney cake) which is rolled dough that is wrapped around a stick, then grilled and topped with sugar and walnut mix. You then have your choice to stuff it with whipped cream, chocolate. fruit, ice cream, etc.
Coffee at Kafka Hummus Cafe
I am getting better at finding yummy coffee places for you guys as I am not a coffee drinker, but get asked about it all the time! I only had a peppermint tea at Kafka Hummus Cafe as I waited for the rain to pass, but when I asked the person next to me how their coffee was they replied, “The best I’ve had in Prague.” So there ya have it! Plus it’s super cute in there.
Brunch at Food Lab
We saw a picture of Food Lab and knew we had to go for brunch. It was perfect because it was less than a 5 minute walk from our room. The pictures don’t do it justice as it’s even cuter in person!
I had the ricotta pancakes and Lotti had their vegetarian eggs benedict. Both were great.
Prague Castle and Explore
It started to rain when we were at brunch but cleared up just in time to walk to the Prague Castle and explore that side of the city. From brunch it was a 20 minute walk to the castle. I’m not that into visiting castles on my trips, but I read that the Prague Castle was founded in around 880 (insane) and according to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is the largest castle in the world. It’s almost 70,000 m² that’s 753,473 sq feet!? So I just knew I had to see it.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t that blow away by the actual castle. The Saint Vitus Cathedral (pictured above) within the castle was more beautiful where the castle was just a bunch a buildings added on to each other. Still cool to see this giant building of course, but I just wasn’t blown away as most of the buildings looked like this.
There were some very pretty areas though and it was still fun to walk around and to say I’ve seen the largest castle in the world!
There’s also a super cute cafe we stopped at for a nice lemonade that I definitely recommend!
But the best part about visiting this area is the gorgeous view you have over the city…
And the adorable buildings you get to walk through on your way to walk back over the bridge!
Lunch at Maitrea Vegetarian
We were originally going to eat lunch at a place near the castle, but the rain was coming in again so we wanted to get closer to our room before Lotti had to head back to Germany. We then found the perfect vegetarian restaurant, Maitrea. It was just minutes away from our room and it was absolutely delicious!
It’s also super extra cute inside!
Lotti had a Traditional tenderloin dish and I had the Maitrea burger. Both were so good! Maitrea was delicious and if you’re looking for a vegetarian restaurant in Prague I couldn’t recommend it more!
Sex Machine Museum in Old Town Prague
When I learned The Sex Machine Museum was a five minute walk from my room you know I had to check it out! For those of you who don’t know one of my other professions is a Sex and Relationship Coach so this is right up my alley. I’m going to leave any detailed pictures on my phone and not on this post so I don’t get flagged, but you can learn more from the website or when you visit yourself! But here is one photo of a prop most people love to pose with!
Although the museum was a bit underwhelming and filled with immature teenagers laughing the entire time, it was still a unique stop and I’m glad I went. I guess I can’t expect others to take it seriously when they don’t spend a lot of the time talking about sex for their job, lol. Plus, some of the exhibits are pretty funny. It’s quite a small museum so you can see the whole thing in under an hour.
Drinks and Appetizers at Obchod Vinem Dusni
On my way to Maitrea earlier that day I noticed this adorable wine shop and bar and knew I had to go for one of my last stops in Prague. Obchod Vinem Dusni had such a great selection of French wines and it was so cool inside!
I was here on a Monday so it was very slow. I’m sure it can get quite busy on the weekends due to limited seating. I had excellent service and the veal truffle tartare was some of the best tartare I’ve ever had!
Dinner at U Parlamentu
I wasn’t hungry so unfortunately I didn’t visit the last restaurant I wanted to check out for dinner. I heard incredible things about U Parlamentu from blogs and locals so I still wanted to include it on this blog post. It is one of the most popular traditional Czech restaurants and has almost 5,000 great reviews on google. People suggested I try the sausage, pork knuckle or goulash so I’d start there. If you go please leave a comment on this blog and let me know how you liked it!
Thanks so much for reading along on this guide to 48 hours in Prague, Czech Republic! I absolutely fell in love with this city and hope you do too! Have you been to Prague? What was your favorite restaurant or place to visit? This would be a great city and guide for a girls trip, couples getaway, solo trip or even family although you’d have to stay away from the Sex Machine Museum.
